An alumnus of Rhode Island public schools, Julian Bessinger (he/him/his) is coming to Brown after a year as the Development and Operations Associate VISTA with Breakthrough Providence. Before serving with Americorps, Julian studied English and American Literature at New York University, where he later worked in fundraising. He then spent two years teaching English as a Foreign Language first in Ho-Chi-Minh-City, Vietnam, then in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He is excited to bring these experiences to bear working on education policy in his home community this year and in those to come. His particular interests lie in anti-racist language policy, special education, college access, and community college. In his free time, Julian enjoys reading, hiking, and the occasional pick-up badminton game.
