Brown Education Faculty Honored with Prestigious University Awards for Mentorship

Laura Snyder has been selected as a 2025 recipient of the Karen T. Romer Award for Excellence in Advising, and Andrea Flores has been chosen to receive the Meenakshi Narain Excellence in Research Mentoring (ERM) Award.

The Education Department is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of two of our faculty members, Professors Laura Snyder and Andrea Flores, who have been recognized with prestigious awards for their exemplary mentorship of undergraduate students.

Laura Snyder Receives Karen T. Romer Award for Excellence in Advising

Laura Snyder has been selected as a 2025 recipient of the Karen T. Romer Award for Excellence in Advising. This award honors faculty who demonstrate exceptional dedication, imagination, and commitment to mentoring undergraduates. It was established through a generous gift from the family of Brown trustee emeritus Marty Granoff and highlights the vital role of academic advising in the undergraduate experience.

Professor Snyder’s work with students exemplifies the highest standards of mentorship. Her thoughtful guidance and unwavering support have left a lasting impact on countless undergraduates, making her a model for faculty across the University. 

Andrea Flores Honored with the Meenakshi Narain Excellence in Research Mentoring Award

Andrea Flores has been selected to receive the Meenakshi Narain Excellence in Research Mentoring (ERM) Award, which honors faculty who show exceptional commitment to mentoring undergraduate researchers. This award also acknowledges those who promote, encourage, and train students from diverse backgrounds in meaningful research experiences.

Professor Flores received glowing nominations from students and colleagues, all praising her dedication as an undergraduate research mentor. Her work to create inclusive structures for research access has opened doors for students of all backgrounds to thrive as scholars. Her leadership in this space sets a powerful example for the Brown community.

University Awards Ceremony

Both awards will be formally presented at the University Awards Ceremony hosted by the Sheridan Center on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in Pembroke Hall 305.
