Our courses prepare undergraduate students to confront inequality, whether their careers take them to classrooms or boardrooms.
Education courses are open to all students, regardless of concentration. Brown's Department of Education offers a wide range of courses covering the organization and history of public education, curriculum and instructional practice, human development, different approaches to education research, and policies and strategies to support diverse learners.
The Education Studies concentration empowers students to explore critical issues in education, design an individualized course pathway, and complete a senior capstone focused on equity, learning, and policy. Many stay at Brown for a fifth year to earn a master’s degree in addition to their A.B.
Benefits Include:
- Highly flexible program, with core requirements that build foundational knowledge and skills as well as community
- Students are able to explore a variety of disciplinary and field-based approaches to education
- Integration of theory and practice in the curriculum, and opportunities for applied, community-engaged, and experiential learning
- Faculty commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising

Opportunities to Engage
There are plenty of opportunities for undergraduates to engage with students in Providence schools through teaching, tutoring, after-school enrichment, and more.
