Capstone Spotlight: Liz Pelletier UEP'26

Liz’s project focused on AI and public good.

In the Central Falls School District (CFSD), policy isn’t just about compliance, it’s about community. With a diverse population of 2,600 students, 46% of whom are Multilingual Learners (MLL), the district’s five-year strategic plan is rooted in equity and empowerment. To meet new state regulations, Liz Pelletier, UEP '26, helped CFSD architect an Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy for the 2026-2027 academic year.

In her capstone, “AI and Public Good: Crafting Policy through Collective Stakeholder Input,” Liz moved beyond technical jargon to center the lived experiences of the community. Her work involved navigating complex ideological beliefs and balancing federal regulations with local needs. Through this process, Liz mastered the art of "responsive policy writing," ensuring that the final framework was as much a product of effective communication as it was of legislative research.

“The experience deepened my understanding of how to work within state and federal regulations to create policies that put the local community first,” Liz shared.

When asked about her advice for future UEP students, Liz shared, “Remain curious and open-minded. The program is designed to deepen your understanding of key issues and develop passions. Having that curiosity helped me discover my capstone.”
