Nair Goncalves
Biography
Nair is a first-generation Cape Verdean American who grew up in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She currently teaches eighth grade English and serves as an English department head in Providence. She is passionate about education and believes in its transformative power. Nair wants every child to have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances. Her policy interests include school accountability, community involvement, and improving student achievement. At the heart of these interests is her belief that education can have generational effects, shaping not only a student’s future but also the opportunities available to their family. Through the Urban Education Policy program, Nair hopes to deepen her understanding of how policy can drive meaningful change at the school and district levels while ensuring that students, families, and communities remain at the center of that work.
