Biography

Education: University of Rhode Island, Class of 2022 - Majors in Secondary Education + English with Minors in Psychology + Leadership Studies

Brian Martin (he/him) is a graduate student at Brown University, pursuing a degree in Urban Education Policy. Brian attended the University of Rhode Island where he was involved in numerous organizations that led Brian to a career in Education. Brian was involved as a University of Rhode Island Orientation Leader, Tour Guide, Leadership Institute Coordinator, Psychology teacher assistant, Vice President of the Student Entertainment Committee, and Vice President of New Member Education for his Greek Life organization. In Brian’s senior year, he was awarded the “KDP Student Teacher of the Year” and was named the URI Class of 2022 Undergraduate Commencement Speaker. 

Following graduation from URI, Brian began teaching at The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center in Newport, better known as “The Met”. The Met is an innovative high school that allows Brian to have an advisory of 16 high school students whose focus is on real-world learning. Brian serves as a teacher, mentor, internship coordinator, project planner, and friend - all rolled into the title of “Advisor”. Through his work at The Met, Brian’s interests have shifted towards the policy that is in motion which directly impacts his students, which is what led him to the Urban Education Policy program at Brown. Brian chose this program to ensure that all students have an equitable opportunity for a powerful education that leads them to lives of happiness.

When he is not in the classroom, Brian enjoys spending his days in Newport, Rhode Island. There, he is usually found thrifting, listening to music, or spending quality time with his dog, Chicken.
