Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)

Biography

Hometown: Asbury, New Jersey
Education: Colby College class of 2022; BA in Biology and Educational Studies

Larkin Denlinger (she/her) was born in Bangalore, India - along with her twin sister! - and moved to the U.S. when she was adopted at the age of one. She grew up in rural New Jersey with a backyard full of pets and a house full of siblings. Larkin attended public schools and then Colby College in Waterville, Maine. She graduated Class of 2022 with a B.A. in Biology and Educational Studies.

As an undergraduate, Larkin was involved with Colby Cares About Kids, Colby Outing Club, Colby Outdoor Orientation Trips, tutoring at the local YMCA, and Colby College Billiards Society. These extracurricular activities focused on her passion for creating community and connection, among both youth and her peers. She also completed two Breakthrough Collaborative summers in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Both summers she taught chemistry to traditionally underrepresented middle school students in these urban areas. She also advised and organized club activities during this time. Breakthrough was what solidified Larkin’s goal to become a teacher.

After graduating, she spent a year as a Science Teaching Fellow at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina where she served in middle school and upper school science classes.

Larkin is pursuing an MAT in Secondary Biology Education in hopes of becoming a high school biology teacher and sharing her love of the sciences, particularly botany! In her free time, you can find Larkin perfecting the chocolate chip cookie, taking leisurely walks, or relaxing with her cat, Cheddar.
