Open Position: Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Member, Brown University, RI

Brown University's Department of Education has partnered with AmeriCorps to offer a year-long, full-time volunteer service position. The team member will build capacity for projects that mobilize higher education to make a difference in the lives of individuals impacted by poverty.

The AmeriCorps member serving at Brown University will be responsible for assisting the Brown Teacher Education Program to build impactful sites for student learning by increasing capacity and leveraging knowledge to create a more efficient, effective reach for the program. The AmeriCorps member will use research, data collection, analysis, and distribution of results and recommendations to design and recommend effective programming. The focal responsibility will be to research, analyze and recommend the next steps based on the research cycle. The member will attend meetings to establish priorities, share information, and understand stakeholder needs and assets, research, compile, and disseminate materials related to academic engagement, culturally relevant learning, and multilingual learning while creating recruitment pipelines and innovative approaches to expand the scale and reach of a summer enrichment program to more low-income students who could benefit from the program.

Member Duties: The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at Brown University will build capacity by creating sustainable and impactful relationships between the Brown Teacher Education Program and four local, urban, high-poverty secondary schools in order to achieve our mission of social justice and equity. The priority focus in Education will leverage an AmeriCorps member to enhance resources and services that contribute to improved educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged youth. Our focal area will be K-12 Success where we will focus on program development, classroom support, summer learning, and classroom teaching. The Brown Teacher Education Program will support the schools in meeting the goals of student academic engagement and social and emotional learning with a focus on culturally responsive learning, supporting English Language learning, and building strength in Science and Mathematics subjects.

The biweekly living allowance for this position is $513.94 in Providence county. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide professional development opportunities via conferences, a public transportation pass, access to professional development & training opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at Brown University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person training including overnight retreats throughout their service year.
