Description
Brown University’s Department of Education seeks to hire a full-time lecturer with expertise in language acquisition, bilingual education, and/or teaching Multilingual Learners to join a faculty committed to addressing social equity issues within the context of urban schools. The faculty member will teach and advise students in our intensive one-year Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program and our multi-disciplinary Education Studies undergraduate concentration. The MAT program cultivates deep partnerships with urban schools in the Providence area that have significant and growing numbers of emerging multilingual students. Therefore, we seek a faculty member who will join us as we think critically about how best to support the students and schools in our community. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, research, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
The faculty member will teach graduate courses in teacher education; advise, mentor, and supervise student-teacher experiences; and contribute to the Department’s mission to provide professional development to teachers at local schools and alumni. The faculty member will also teach undergraduate courses in areas of expertise related to language development and education. The position is for a three-year renewable term with potential for promotion and begins in Fall 2022.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a master's degree or a doctorate in Education, Critical Applied Linguistics, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or related content fields. A doctorate is preferred. The most qualified applicants will have experience in K-12 teaching; teaching and supervision of new teachers; strong knowledge of and expertise in the research and pedagogy on language acquisition for emerging bilingual students; an ability to work closely and productively with school and university colleagues; and a commitment to advancing educational equity in urban schools.
