The Education Department at Brown University invites applications for a one-year visiting Assistant Professor in urban education policy with expertise in race and politics to begin August 2024. The successful applicant will teach a graduate course “Race and Democracy in Urban Education Policy” in the Urban Education Policy (UEP) masters’ program and three undergraduate courses including introductory courses in education politics and policy and seminars in their area of specialization. We particularly welcome applications from scholars whose teaching/scholarship in Education considers critical theoretical approaches and analysis of power, justice, and inequality in urban school contexts using qualitative, historical, or cultural lenses.

The Education Department is a multi-disciplinary department with a strong applied focus and commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships with urban schools and community partners. We have two diverse, cohort-based MA programs (the UEP and a Master of Arts in Teaching) with year-long internship components and an undergraduate concentration that offers a broad liberal arts approach to Education Studies. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to the commitment of the Education Department and University. Accordingly, the Education Department seeks qualified candidates who can contribute to equity, diversity and inclusion through service, mentorship, teaching and scholarship. Further, the Education Department is keenly interested in diversifying and encourages applications from diverse candidates.
