Jin Li Receives Brown University's President's Award For Excellence In Faculty Governance

Professor Li was one of five recipients recognized by President Christina Paxson at the monthly faculty meeting on April 2. This annual award celebrates contributions to University committees and governance.

Dr. Jin Li, a faculty member in the Brown Department of Education, has been awarded the President’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Governance by Brown University. This award was established by the former President Ruth J. Simmons to recognize faculty contributions through their service on committees and advisory boards. Li was one of the five recipients of this annual award.

Jin Li is a Professor of Education and Human Development and was recognized for her contributions as the Vice Chair of the Grievance Committee, which she joined in 2022. The Grievance Committee is responsible for offering mechanisms to faculty and students to solve grievances related to Brown University policies, including those concerning academic freedom and research integrity.

Li recently told the Brown Daily Herald, “without serving this kind of role as a faculty member, you're not gaining [an] understanding of how a great university operates."

“We have to contribute to [Brown's] health and vitality,” Li said. “Without faculty participating or being willing to serve, then this community … will not be as great as it should be.”
