Biography

Hometown: Chappaqua, New York    
Education: University of Notre Dame - Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Behavior, Class of 2022, Rhode Island College - Masters in Education, Class of 2023   

Lizzy Wendel (she/her) is a UEP student from Chappaqua, New York. She is currently a special education science teacher and case manager at PPSD’s Central High School. She began her career in education as a 2022 Teach For America Rhode Island corps member. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 2022, where she majored in Neuroscience and Behavior and minored in Education, Schooling, and Society. She obtained her M.Ed. from Rhode Island College in 2023. 

As an undergraduate student, she worked as a research assistant at Notre Dame’s Institute for Educational Initiatives for three years. During this time, she helped conduct various research studies concerning teacher leadership and classroom management. She also conducted her own research study on non-cognitive outcomes of charter school students. Lizzy is excited to continue her education at Brown, while still working full-time to support her students as a classroom teacher. Upon completion of the UEP, Lizzy hopes to create and implement trauma-informed policies that will benefit her students and their families for generations to come.
