Professor Diane Silva Pimentel works towards creating educational settings that support the growth and success of all students. As the current Director of the Brown Master of Arts in Teaching program, her goal has been to develop a program that prepares our graduate students to meet the multifaceted responsibilities of the teaching profession in a way that positively impacts their students and communities. In science education, her main interests focus on supporting the participation and persistence of underrepresented students in STEM.

The Brown Department of Education's Faculty Flash Talk Series highlights the research and teaching practices of our faculty, with a particular focus on how their work addresses educational inequality and makes a positive impact on society. Their undergraduate and graduate-level courses explore fundamental issues of race, class, power, privilege, equity, and identity through the lens of America’s schools, and prepare students to be change agents in the broad-based education sector and beyond.
