Congratulations on your acceptance to the Brown University Graduate School! 

We are excited to welcome you to the Department of Education! Our department's mission is to understand and improve education through research, teaching, and practice. We are committed to a liberal arts approach to graduate education that emphasizes critical inquiry and reflection, broad and diverse perspectives, dedication to the public good, the interconnection of theory and practice, and a multi-disciplinary education that equips students to be thoughtful leaders and agents of change.

  • Department of Education Orientation: Monday, June 10, 2024 - required 
  • International Orientation: August, 21-23, 2024
  • Student of Color Orientation: August 25-26, 2024
  • All-Student Orientation: August 27-28, 2024 - required 
First Day of Classes 
  • Summer (MAT): Tuesday, June 11, 2024 
  • Summer (UEP): Monday, June 17, 2024 
  • Fall: Wednesday, September 4, 2024
  • Spring (MAT): MAT students will begin classes in January in conjunction with local schools (typically January 2)
  • Spring (UEP): Wednesday, January 22, 2025
